Meet The Course Contributors....

Elaine Wilkins BA Hons, PGCE, ILM, CMI, Accredited Coach, Founder, Author and Recovere

The Chrysalis Effect is a non profit organisation that has been delivering an online recovery pathway for over 11 years in the private healthcare sector. It was developed by our founder, Elaine Wilkins. who experienced 6 years and chronic fatigue and pain before achieving full and sustained recovery.

Her experience was typical of many. She was offered anti- depressants, pain and sleep medication and offered a symptom management course designed to accept living with a long term chronic illness. With 2 teenage children this felt completely unacceptable to her and so she set about trying to find out what had caused her symptoms and what she needed to do to overcome them.

This took a long time trying to search while struggling with so many cognitive and physical symptoms. She felt like giving up many times. It took 6 years but she got there. Then she heard of a young woman who had committed suicide after suffering for 17 years on medication left with no quality of life.  She knew this had to change.

This led Elaine to research recovery. She says 'The medical model researches disease. I wanted to research recovery. To understand exactly what it takes to recover. I knew what I had done to recover and wanted to see if there were common themes in others who had recovered. I sought out other people who had been given a similar diagnosis who had recovered fully, and guess what? The same things came up over and over again, this formed the basis of a recovery programme and accredited health care practitioner training.

Since then Over 3750 patients have accessed the recovery pathway and today it has grown to become an international recovery community. The mission was to make sure that recovery is accessible to all at point of GP referral regardless of postcode.'

Dr Patricia Worby

PhD BSc, MSc, ACMT, HPD

Patricia Worby, PhD, is a practitioner of body-oriented (somatic) psychotherapy which releases unprocessed emotion causing a range of medically unexplained symptoms including pain, fatigue, anxiety, etc.

Her specialism is in chronic illness especially chronic exhaustive conditions which she believes always have a trauma component at their core. This was the subject of her PhD thesis and books ‘The Scar that Won’t Heal’; Stress, Trauma and Emotion in Chronic Disease and ‘The World Within’; How your Microbiome Shapes who you are.

Initially studying Nutritional Medicine at Surrey University and then Advanced Clinical Massage (ACM) at the Jing Institute, Brighton, she began to confidently treat musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. However, something was missing… clients were coming to her with complex multi-factorial disease for which physical therapy was not enough. She recognised the emotional stress component to disease which is often not addressed and decided to extend her knowledge with psychotherapy - specifically studying cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy and trauma release.

She has recently developed a unique programme for the release of unprocessed emotions using a combination of Havening, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) which form a powerful armoury for treatment of anxiety, depression and chronic pain.

In addition, she is a certified NLP Practitioner and Chrysalis Effect Wellbeing Coach specialising in Chronic Fatigue Syndromes such as ME and Fibromyalgia and an author of 4 books and the teaching module for Advanced Chrysalis Effect Practitioners on ACE.

Dr Patricia Worby PhD, BSc, MSc, ACMT, HPD, Member of the International College of Holistic Medicine (ICHM), General Hypnotherapy Register and an Institute of Leadership and Management accredited wellbeing coach and Chrysalis Effect (ME/CFS specialist) Practitioner.
