About Qigong

Qigong is an ancient Chinese practice, similar to tai chi, which involves gentle exercise. It can have many potential benefits to health and wellbeing.

'Qi' translates as 'energy' and 'gong' as 'work' or ‘training’. Qi is the vital energy that flows through all living things.

Over millennia, qigong has been used for health, the martial arts and spirituality.

The slow, repetitive movements in qigong make it wonderfully meditative, so if you struggle with other types of meditation, this form of moving meditation may work for you.

The gentle exercise and meditative nature of qigong can help to enhance your sense of wellbeing on your journey to recovery from a chronic exhaustive condition.

About the Workshop

There is something for everyone in this workshop, no matter what stage of recovery you are in.

It will be in six parts:

  1. Setting up good posture
  2. Breathwork
  3. Some warm up exercises for the main joints in the body
  4. An introduction to feeling qi
  5. Some movement practices
  6. A meditation to finish.

Qigong is usually performed standing, but it can also be adapted as chair-based exercises, so you can choose to be seated or standing for this workshop. You will be able to stop and rest at any time.

You can also choose to lie down and listen to the whole workshop, perhaps joining in with the breathwork practice near the beginning and with the meditation at the end.

More About Your Session Teacher....

Wendy discovered qigong over twenty years ago and immediately knew that she wanted to teach it one day.

She went on to find a local class to teach her the principles of qigong and in time that led her to a training course for instructors.

In 2021 she started her journey towards specialising in working with clients with chronic exhaustive conditions by training with the Chrysalis Effect in Wellbeing Coaching, and in 2023 she qualified as a Specialist Practitioner.

Wendy has been running Rooke Holistic Therapies since 2015, providing massage, reflexology, qigong and coaching.
