Welcome to Session 31 Finding Your Purpose.
You might be asking,'why have we included a session on this in a recovery programme?'
Well one of the most common reasons people lose their health is because they are trying to do something that is not making them happy. This week we are looking at this concept in terms of what we choose to do in life.
Be it a course of study, a job or having our own business, it will only ever serve us and keep us healthy if it aligns with our interests and passions. This is common sense, yet so many of us feel it is okay to force ourselves to do something each and every day that drains our energy and saps the very life force out of us.
Think of children: they bounce out of bed each morning hungry for the day. How many people do you know who are like that as adults?
Before you got ill, how did you feel about what you did for a living? If you are still managing to work, how do you feel about what you are doing? Is it a means of paying the bills? Were you or are you studying something that makes your heart feel heavy?
Historically it was rarely the case that teachers and parents asked you what you were passionate about wanting to do when you left school. In fact you may remember being asked what subject you wanted to study, and I don’t believe that is the same question.
How many of us would have chosen the career path we did if we had known where it would lead?
Did we make an informed choice?
Have we changed and want to express ourselves in a new way? It cannot be underestimated how bad it is for us to feel unfulfilled in what we do.
To be a square peg in a round hole is uncomfortable and cannot be sustained without our health being affected.
The problem when you are ill is that at first you crave getting ‘back to normal’. Then as time goes by you may realise that it is the perfect opportunity to do something that you really want to do.
A vital key to recovery is having something to aim for, and finding out what you are passionate about creates energy and is a catalyst for faster healing.
Today we are so happy to introduce you to the work of author Nick Williams. Nick also lost his health after working for 18 years in an industry that was never his passion.
Nick has transformed his life by tapping into his purpose and now he helps thousands of people to do the same.
I have been a trainer for many years and have worked in both the corporate and public sectors. It doesn’t take me long to spot the people on a training course who hate what they do.
As a coach I often get to ask the question: If there was nothing in your way, what would you do? Without fail, about 90% of the room say something other than the job they are doing.
When I ask them to tell me what they would have loved to do their eyes shine, they become animated and energized. The change is physical and the energy in the whole room changes.
It is an astounding thing to witness.
We are all energy and that energy has a vibration. When we are unhappy and unfulfilled our vibration becomes affected. The symptoms you have been experiencing have affected your energy profoundly, so take the time in this session to discover your purpose and see just how much it changes how you feel and how it will affect your energy.
That shift in energy that occurs is as though the spirit is stirred. When that happens we become inspired. Think of when you last felt inspired. It’s a joyful feeling we experience a certainty that we are on to something.
When you come across something that feels exciting or interesting, that is a powerful feeling. The challenge is getting us to realise that we are choosing to go to a job that is destroying our soul.
Have you have ever commuted by train? You can feel the negativity on the trains in the morning, people sleeping and looking like they would rather be anywhere else.
This poem by TS Eliot sums up this feeling.
Under the brown fog of a winter dawn,
A crowd flowed over London Bridge, so many,
I had not thought death had undone so many,
Sighs, short and infrequent, were exhaled,
And each man fixed his eyes before his feet.
Flowed up the hill and down King William Street, To where Saint Mary Woolnoth kept the hours
With a dead sound on the final stroke of nine.
M.E. is an opportunity for you to really tap into what you would love to do and begin to take the steps to make it happen.
In this work we are reminded about the importance of acknowledging our uniqueness and taking the time to explore our true potential rather than fall into doing something just because it's there or because someone else thought we should.
Nick explains:
"You too have unique talents, a calling to enact, challenges to face, rewards to treasure, obstacles to overcome and a Self to become. Your job in this life is not to try to shape yourself into some idealised version of yourself, but to find out who you already are 'in embryo' and then become that individual in full."
There is a Potential-Self in you that you are here to realise, which holds the answer to why you are here on this planet. Realising this inner Self defines the work you were born to do -and it is your calling and vocation to discover and unlock its latent brilliance.
However, none of us has unlimited choices and it is a fact of life that we can’t all be absolutely everything we want to be. But, your personal calling is as unique as your fingerprint, and the best way to succeed is to discover what you love doing and then to find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, allowing your heart and the energy of the Universe to lead YOU in the process.’
Just reading this makes me want to run into every school and shout STOP!!!! What would our world be like if children were exposed to this concept? At 7 years old we have no doubts that we can do or be anything – then the grading and judging begins.
As companies cut back and streamline, we are often expected to take on more and more tasks that are not natural or enjoyable to us. When this happens we get out of our natural flow.
Did you find yourself persisting in doing things outside of your purpose or passion? This is when we may find that we use self-medication to cope. This is what leads people to drinking too much, overeating, eating comfort food, overspending and doing anything that distracts us from how we really feel.
As we begin to feel more and more out of flow, the headaches begin, the digestion breaks down as stress takes hold and we enter the denial stage of our health breakdown which is heading for the crash phase at some point.
Going with the Flow
"Everything in the universe has a purpose. Indeed, the invisible intelligence that flows through everything in a purposeful fashion is also flowing through you."
- Wayne Dyer
Finding your passion and living on purpose (or not in my case) - was a big part of my condition.
"If you are doing anything that feels like hard work, you are already doing the wrong thing".
The reason we are talking to you about wealth dynamics, is really not just about building wealth at all, it’s about being in your flow and doing what you love, as that is how health will be improved and a happy and fulfilled life will be created and maintained.
For me, this was a big part of my health problems. When I left school I didn't know what I wanted to do. I had lots of cousins and baby-sat all the time, so I thought I would try child care. I started the college course, and within 2 months, I knew it wasn't for me. I felt unfulfilled: I loved children but not working with them!
But I remember the panic, the fear, and the complete state I got myself into as I didn’t know what I wanted to do, and this was at age 16/17, just before my health deteriorated into M.E., so I know it was one of my triggers.
I wanted to be around adults and in the work environment, not just at college, so I ended up getting a job in Administration and doing an NVQ whilst I was there. I enjoyed it for the first month, getting to know the people, and then was bored witless! 9-5 in an office doing administration - I had no excitement, passion or drive to want to do it, but had no idea what I was capable of or what I enjoyed.
It was while I was working there that my health really fell apart. Of course it wasn't just that, it was the physical aspects of going on the pill, having tonsillitis constantly at school (being on antibiotics), the combination of these, and the stresses of the financial issues within the family as I was growing up, were all part of it, but I know this was a massive part of my trigger!
And the reason I know that, is because it became a pattern. When I had to leave there because I was ill and bedridden, I managed to build up some strength and I got a part time job. This lead to a full time job in sales, but again I was still unfulfilled, stuck in an office. My health again deteriorated and I had to leave.
Then I came across Mary Kay Cosmetics and built a business very slowly, just a few hours a week, teaching skincare & makeup to ladies. I worked when I chose and was out & about interacting with people, which I loved.
My health got stronger and I was able to grow the business and eventually became a director so that I had a team of people that I trained and inspired. I loved it, and ran my business for many years.
However I got to the point where I realised that I was passionate about inspiring and training people, but not within that industry, so once again I found other opportunities. I got myself into a state again as I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do and the vicious circle continued!!
Knowing where I am going and following my passion and making a difference to others is really important for me. When I came across Wealth Dynamics it was a breakthrough for me. When I knew which profile I was, it gave me permission to do what I love, in terms of connecting with people and networking.
However, that wasn't just the answer.
Because what happened was I found I was great at networking and connecting with people, but not promoting or talking about what I am truly passionate about! Which I am now doing.
So there are a few parts to finding your flow, doing what you love and being paid what you're worth for it.
Firstly finding out what your profile is, that’s the first step, and then it’s about tapping into your passion and working within an area of interest, something you are passionate about, that just comes naturally to you.
Then it’s about creating the team around you to support you with that. As it’s not just about finding your flow, it’s about supporting others in theirs, as that is often the key!!
As we all have our strengths and our weaknesses, and it's knowing that is absolutely OK! And as it's usually A Type personalities, driven, perfectionist type people that develop these conditions, this is really important - to know you don't have to do it all.
It’s about doing what you do best, even though you can do lots of things, it doesn't mean you have to. So teaming up with others can free you up to focus on doing what you love and they can do the same, doing what they love, creating an amazing opportunity for you!
To not only have fun, doing what you love, creating a lifestyle that enables you to live a balanced, healthy, fulfilled life, you will be earning money in a way that feels like you are playing a game, rather than working hard!
The saying goes,
'Find something you love, get paid to do it, and you will never have to work a day in your life!'
So let’s explain a bit more about Wealth Dynamics and why it’s so important in our health!
Building Wealth isn't about fighting yourself and trying to suppress your natural behaviour. If that were true, the wealthiest people on the planet would have quit when they first became millionaires rather than still playing the game their whole life.
The real trick to building wealth is to maximise your natural strengths and the things you feel are fun. That way you will always have the energy and the drive to stick through the challenges and remain healthy!! (and EVERY wealth strategy throws up challenges that are designed to weed out the people who are just chasing the money).
When you are following your passion and in your flow, challenges can be overcome!
Example of different profiles within the music industry
Can you see how important they all are?
They all need each other for it to work, no one is more or less important than the other, it’s about working together to create a team of people, all doing what they love and working together towards a common vision.
Can you imagine the singer or pop star, trying to be the agent, and the producer and the manager, and that’s often what we try and do. We try and be all things to all people because we may have lots of skills.
We try and do so many different things, that we think we have to do, but actually someone else can probably do a much better job (now sometimes we don't want to hear that!!) But that frees you up to do what you LOVE, rather than just doing it because you can!
But what is your path?
Your path is determined or based on your natural character, habits and talents. Wealth Dynamic through its profiling system enables you to recognise and understand this natural character.
The eastern philosophy within Wealth Dynamics determine that there are eight profile or character types each with their own set of qualities and their own path. One of these eight unique profiles is more dominant within you.
By understanding which one you resonate with, you will know the rules you need to follow to be able to determine your path of least resistance to true wealth.
When there is less resistance in your life a strange thing happens, without resistance you start to get flow.
Flow is a state that happens when people are in harmony with their environment and their natural character, habits and talents. It is the moment when everything starts to align, the moment when magic starts to happen.
We have all had glimpses of this, when things just happen, opportunities arrive; people appear, timing just works out, you just seem to know exactly what to do and when to do it.
Your world just starts to flow.
Wealth Dynamics as well as helping you identify flow, helps you understand what you need to do to make this magic happen.
And when MAGIC happens, Health, Happiness and Fulfilment begin to become and stay in your life and that's why it's so important to find your passion, get into your flow and love your life!!
Here is Roger Hamilton explaining Wealth Dynamics and a bit more about each profile to help give you a bit more of an understanding.
